What Does "Rebuild" and "Used Engine" Mean for Your BMW?
When your BMW's engine needs attention, two common options are an engine rebuild or fitting a used engine. They are not the same, and the right choice depends on your situation.
Engine Rebuild
We take your BMW's original engine, fully disassemble it, and inspect every component. Worn parts are replaced, and machining work (boring, honing, grinding) is performed to exact tolerances. The engine is then reassembled to factory specification, using your vehicle's known history as a baseline.
Used Engine
A used engine is removed from a donor vehicle — often a salvage car — and installed as-is. Its condition, mileage, and maintenance history are largely unknown. No internal work is performed unless we choose to inspect or refresh it, which would then make it a rebuilt unit.
Our Rebuild Pricing
We offer fixed-price rebuilds starting from:
All prices include full rebuild, machining, and fitting. Full pricing details →
Used engine pricing varies by availability — we can source and fit a used engine if that's your preferred route, but we always recommend a rebuild for the best long-term outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a used engine always cheaper than a rebuild?+
Not necessarily. While the purchase price of a used engine may be lower, hidden issues (wear, lack of service history) can lead to additional costs. Our rebuilds have a fixed price and come with a warranty, giving you certainty.
How long does a rebuild take compared to fitting a used engine?+
A rebuild typically takes 3-5 working days, depending on the engine. A used engine can be fitted faster if a suitable unit is in stock, but we recommend the rebuild for long-term reliability.
Can you source and fit a used engine if I prefer?+
Yes, we can source a compatible used engine for your BMW. However, we always advise that a rebuild is the more reliable option because we control the entire process and can guarantee the quality.
What warranty do you offer on rebuilds?+
Every engine rebuild we perform comes with a 12-month unlimited mileage warranty, covering parts and labour.
